Anyone who abandons their dogs in the forest will pay a fine of 25 thousand shekels

The Ministry of Agriculture filed an indictment in the Rishon Lezion Magistrate’s Court against a resident of the central region of Israel who brought two of his dogs, which he had been raising for many years, to the Ben Shemen forest and abandoned them there. The court fined the offender 25,000 shekels.

As reported by Ynet on Monday, September 23, the incident occurred in the fall of 2021: an inspector from the Hevel Modiin Regional Council found two abandoned dogs in the forest. The dogs were taken to the municipal veterinary clinic for treatment.

A few months later, the Agriculture Department’s litigation department filed charges against the dog owner. During the trial, he admitted to the offense. In addition to the fine, he was also banned from owning dogs for a year.

The Ministry of Agriculture reminds that if an owner is unable to care for their pets for some reason, they are obliged to find a suitable solution for them, rather than abandon them to their fate.
