RT: A slight increase in construction is expected for next year

Construction will shrink this year by seven percent from last year, predicts Construction industry RT in its autumn economic review. Last year, construction shrank by 16 percent from the previous year.

For next year, Rakennusteollisuus RT predicts a growth of four percent, but points out that the growth is due to weak comparative figures and does not yet mean a decent turnaround.

“Unfortunately, not enough is happening in the Finnish economy from a construction point of view. The long-term disadvantages of construction are decreasing, but weak confidence in the economy and stronger growth depending on wishes do not allow for a turnaround,” says the chief economist Jouni Vihmo in the bulletin.

The number of new apartment starts is expected to be 17,000 this year. It is slightly less than last year.
