Proximus and Belfius are pulling the plug on the Banx internet bank

Banx, the internet bank of Proximus and Belfius, is closing down. The telecom company and the bank reported this in a press release. The app will disappear in the coming months.

Proximus and Belfius launched Banx at the end of 2021. To make a difference from other internet banks, they focused on sustainability. The customer gained insight into, among other things, the ecological footprint of his expenditure. There was a choice of a free account or a subscription of 6.5 euros per month with more services.

“Despite the innovative character and a top-level digital user experience, it proved very difficult to develop a new banking app and brand and to achieve sufficient scale in an already mature market,” it said three years later.

Current Banx customers will be personally informed about the discontinuation from October. They can switch to Belfius or close their account. It is not disclosed how many customers are involved.

Belfius and Proximus will continue to work together, they emphasize. A new offer is in the works where Proximus customers will be able to enjoy a number of exclusive benefits if they subscribe to Belfius’ banking offer. The “Beats” formula, in which Proximus services are sold via Belfius channels, will also be continued.
