Fuel prices at pre-Ukraine war levels

The prices for Petrol and Diesel were in September primarily responsible for die waning general Inflation rate.

The average cost was per liter Super 1,486 Euros (minus 6.5 cents compared to August) and Diesel 1,494 euros (minus 5,1 Cent).

There were similar prices in 2023, but only for one of the two types of fuel. The last time that both were at this level at the same time was before the start of the Ukraine war, the ÖAMTC calculated on Wednesday.

In terms of price, Austria is in the EU comparison from August and September in midfield of all countries. Anyone who had hoped for a small saving when refueling as a diesel driver was disappointed. Most recently, diesel was, even if only slightly, more expensive than gasoline.

Middle East conflict has consequences

The further escalation in the Middle East with missile attacks by Iran on Israel is also having a slight impact on the price of oil. A barrel (159 liters) of North Sea Brent cost $74.97 on Wednesday morning. That was 0.67 percent more than on Tuesday. The price of a barrel of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rose 0.56 percent to $71.29. In any case, oil prices are currently still well below the annual highs in spring and the annual average.
