Wheels burst during landing, Orio al Serio airport damaged

At 7.55 this morning the Ryanair flight FR 846, coming from Barcelona El Prat with 161 passengers on board, suffered a blowout in the four rear landing gear tires during the landing phase at Orio al Serio airport. The damage did not compromise the landing maneuver and did not cause problems on board or consequences for the passengers. The latter, after the immediate intervention of the Orio al Serio Fire Brigade detachment and the securing of the aircraft which remained stationary on the runway, were safely disembarked and accompanied towards the airport.

This was announced by Sacbo, the management company of the Bergamo airport. Due to the aircraft stopped on the runway, operations were suspended with the issuing of a Notam which provided for the reopening of the runway no earlier than 5.00 pm (local time). Departing flights were delayed and arriving flights were diverted or cancelled. The tire burst caused damage to the runway over a length of 450 metres. The damage affected the flooring superficially, which was scratched to a depth of approximately one centimeter.

For this reason, it was necessary to plan for the restoration of the flooring, through an urgent intervention entrusted to a specialized company, to allow the runway to be rehabilitated for regular operation. The reopening of the runway, Sacbo specifies, is subject to the removal of the aircraft and the completion of the pavement restoration work.
