Israel | Inflation is twice as strong: the holiday food basket has risen in price by 7%

According to the Consumer Council, the food basket on the eve of the autumn holidays has risen in price by 7% compared to the pre-holiday period in 2023. This is double the annual inflation rate of 3.6% over this period.

The basket is made up of approximately 770 products that are in greatest demand in retail chains.

Approximately a fifth of the increase in price is due to an increase in prices for Tnuva products, including a tenth due to an increase in prices for the Sunfrost brand.

The most significant increases in price compared to last year were olive oil (39%), fresh chicken (35%), vegetables and fruits (25%), and beef (10%).

The increase in product prices is only partly explained by an increase in list prices. A significant portion of the increase in price compared to last year is a consequence of the almost complete absence of discounts.
