IAI opened a new plant in Ofakim, Elbit will build a plant for the production of aerial bombs

The defense concern Elbit Maarahot has received an order from the Ministry of Defense to build a plant for the production of aircraft bombs in order to reduce dependence on supplies from the United States.

The cost of the order is 1.5 billion shekels. As part of the terms of the order, the bombs will be manufactured entirely in Israel. The main efforts will be directed to the production of MK-84 class bombs – that is, ton anti-bunker bombs.

Also, as part of a program to reduce dependence on defense imports, the Aviation Industry Concern (IAI) announced the opening of a new electronics production plant in Ofakim for the needs of its other divisions.

The construction of the plant took seven months and 50 million shekels of investment. The plant’s order book already amounts to $38 million for the next four years.

Currently, the plant, located next to the Ofakima railway station, employs 40 employees, next year the staff is planned to increase to 100 employees, and in the future to increase their number to 500.

The plant will assemble electronic circuits using SMT technology; soldering Through Hole components using selective or manual soldering technology; performing complex electromechanical assemblies in accordance with military standards; carrying out electrical tests; production of aviation wiring harnesses for civil and military systems in compliance with the required standards; replacing solder alloys for BGA components to improve reliability; and assembling and replating SMT components to meet military standards.
