The EU Commission has demanded from YouTube, Snapchatilta and Tiktokilta information about the parameters used by their content recommendation algorithms. The commission presented its demands on Wednesday. The news agency reports about it Reuters.
According to the EU, algorithms can play a role in the growth of various risks, for example during elections, in terms of mental health and in minors being sick. The claim was made based on the Commission’s Digital Services Act (DSA). According to the release, the purpose of the commission is to reduce the amount of illegal content spreading on platforms, such as drug dealing and hate speech.
Due to the new regulation, Tiktok will come under the strictest punishment, from which the EU asked for more information about the measures the company is taking to fight against malicious content manipulation and false election content.
Technology companies must submit the information by November 15 at the latest. If the companies do not obey the order, fines may result, for example.
The EU has previously launched non-compliance procedures under the DSA, which require major tech companies to do more to combat illegal and harmful content on their platforms, in relation to Methane Facebook and Instagram, Aliexpress and Tiktok recommendations.
