Paris: losers of the Olympics, tourism and culture hope for long-term economic benefits

A gloomy economic report, but a head full of hope. Here is a summary of the lessons from the latest study carried out by the Banque de France on the repercussions of the Paris 2024 Games (JOP) on the tourism and culture sectors, in Île-de-France and in the capital. “The results are not always there immediately. This is what we are observing here, but we were amazed and I think we will succeed in capitalizing on this global event,” enthused François Laurent, ministerial delegate to the JOP, during a conference organized Monday October 7.

This feeling of discomfiture is rather marked among catering professionals, 84% of whom express a negative feeling about the fortnight of the Games. They also estimate a drop in activity of 7% at this precise moment with establishments less full than usual.
