Alphabet, the company behind Google, must give more space to competitors in its Google Play app store. This was determined by an American judge in San Francisco. Alphabet must also make Android apps available via other platforms.
The case was filed in 2020 by Fortnite maker Epic Games. Epic accused Alphabet of abuse of power and stated that Google Play’s rules and fees hindered competition and payments within third-party apps.
At the end of last year, a jury in the same case ruled that Alphabet has an illegal monopoly with its app store. The jury then said that the behavior is “unfair” for developers of games and apps.
