EASA did not cancel its recommendation to avoid Israeli airspace

On Monday, October 7, a meeting of the European Civil Aviation Agency (EASA) was held to discuss the situation in the Middle East.

Despite the efforts of the Israeli Civil Aviation Authority, the meeting ended without any decisions being made. Thus, the October 1 recommendation, in which EASA advised airlines to refrain from flying into Lebanese and Israeli airspace at any altitude until October 31, remained in effect.

EASA’s recommendations are not binding, but are used by insurance companies and airline operating committees, among others. It was this recommendation that caused most European airlines to not return to Israeli routes.
