Data leak at Decathlon: hacker tries to convert customer loyalty points into gift vouchers

The unknown perpetrator checked whether previously leaked usernames and passwords were reused at Decathlon. That data from previous hacks is circulating on the internet.

Decathlon’s cybersecurity teams noticed the attempts and blocked the networks from which the unauthorized connections originated, the company said. The affected customers were asked to change their Decathlon account password.

The technology is not new. In 2021, for example, criminals stole the digital savings cards of hundreds of customers of department store chain Delhaize to convert them into 5 euro discount vouchers. Even then, there were indications that external lists of previously leaked email addresses and passwords had been used.
