Tesla shows robot taxi and self-driving bus

According to Musk, the Cybercab will cost less than 30,000 dollars (almost 27,500 euros) and production is expected to start in 2026. At the same time, the billionaire admitted that he tends to be optimistic when it comes to timetables.

The software for autonomous driving, which no longer requires human intervention, would be deployed next year in Texas and California in the current Model 3 and Model Y. Musk still wants to achieve this only with cameras and software, and without expensive technology such as laser radars in other self-driving cars.

‘Robovan’

Musk also presented a futuristic-looking self-driving bus called ‘Robovan’. The bus must be able to seat up to twenty people. The wedge-shaped front is somewhat reminiscent of earlier visions of the future for locomotives. According to Musk, the Robovan can also transport goods. It was not indicated when the bus can be expected in the streets.

Musk also provided information about the robot ‘Optimus’ on Thursday evening. According to Musk, this would be “the most important product”. “Every person will have at least one as a mechanical helper,” it sounds.

Musk showed up in the Warner Bros. Hollywood Studios in Los Angeles on Thursday evening driving around in a Cybercab without a steering wheel and pedals. Because it is a private location, no permission from the traffic authorities was required. Tesla had a small fleet of Cybercabs ready to drive attendees around the expansive film sets. Only analysts and influencers who spoke positively about Tesla on the internet were invited. Journalists were not welcome.

Musk is also currently campaigning heavily for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who hopes to return to the White House in November.
