Goodbye to Marcello Mutti, king of tomato puree

Farewell to Marcello Mutti, patron of the historic and homonymous Parma company specialized in tomato processing and canning. He was 83 years old. The ‘Gazzetta di Parma’ reports it. “My father passed away in the house where he came into the world. The house within the company”, his son Francesco, CEO of Mutti since 1994, tells the newspaper. “The legacy he leaves us – he continues – is that of seeing the company as a value, based on the importance of planning and construction. A company in which attention and respect towards people must be priorities”.

In the interview with ‘La Gazzetta di Parma’, his son Francesco continues: “My father was a shy man but with a very big heart, who had an innate culture of giving. He loved nature very much and, when he saw it ‘trampled’, he suffered greatly. He loved large natural spaces, those of the plains and those of Africa, where the gaze was lost in the infinite.”

Born on 25 December 940, Marcello Mutti graduated in Economics and Commerce and from a young age showed a propensity for innovation. His idea, revolutionary for the time, to use the glass to store products of his company, contributing significantly to the spread of tomato puree.
His career developed within the “Corte” of Piazza di Montechiarugolo – bought by the Mutti family at the end of the nineteenth century – where he dedicated every day to the growth of his company.
