European aerospace company Airbus will cut up to 2,500 jobs in its Defense and Space department. The French news agency AFP learned this from an anonymous source close to the discussions between management and unions.
It is not yet clear how the jobs will disappear. The department currently employs around 35,000 people, but is facing declining demand in space activities.
‘Defence and Space’ achieved a turnover of 5 billion euros in the first half of 2024, but there was an operating loss (EBIT) of 760 million euros.
Airbus management declined to comment. The entire Airbus group employed almost 155,000 people worldwide at the end of June.
