Coca-cola produces drinks for the domestic market Austria. There has been its own Coca-Cola bottling here for 95 years. The US beverage company was the first bottling and distribution partner Heinrich Ganahl from Bludenz. In 1929 he started producing the first 24,000 bottles of Coca-Cola – almost a century later, Coca-Cola HBC Austria sells 471 million liters of drinks per year and employs around 900 people.
At 83 percent, the majority of the drinks come from the Burgenland. According to company information, around four out of five products sold in Austria were sold in 2023 Production and logistics plant in Edelstal bottled. In the past ten years, investments amounting to 150 million euros have flowed into the local business, as the general manager of Coca-Cola HBC Austria, Herbert Bauer, recently emphasized in mid-October on the occasion of the company’s anniversary.
Worth 140 million per year
Two thirds of the drinks go to domestic retailers and one third to the catering industry. Coca-Cola HBC Austria sells its drinks to over 70,000 customers – local partnerships in the catering industry, the hotel industry and the food retail sector.
According to the company, it sources its goods and services from domestic suppliers. The value adds up to over 140 million euros per year. Coca-Cola also sees itself as a relevant taxpayer – in 2023, according to previous company information, “the tax revenue in connection with Coca-Cola” reached 689 million euros, 46 million of which were paid directly.
According to the beverage manufacturer, the food trade generates around 605 million euros through distribution and sales activities of the Coca-Cola system. The Coca-Cola System refers to the collaboration between Coca-Cola GmbH as the Austrian subsidiary of The Coca-Cola Company and Coca-Cola HBC Austria as a bottling and distribution partner.
