A contract was signed to supply the IDF with a batch of laser missile defense systems “Shield of Light” for 2 billion shekels

The Israeli Ministry of Defense announced the signing of a contract for the purchase of a batch of Shield of Light (Magen Or) laser missile defense systems from the Rafael and Elbit Maarahot concerns.

The transaction cost is 2 billion shekels. The timing of delivery of the system to the IDF has not been disclosed. At the same time, the director of the Armament Development Office at the Ministry of Defense (MAPAT), Dani Gold, said that the system is ready for use in combat conditions.

The Shield of Light laser missile defense system should become an additional level of the layered Israeli missile defense system, taking on a significant part of the functions of the Iron Dome.

The system is capable of destroying UAVs, missiles, and mortar shells. At the same time, the cost of each shot is about $10, and after interception there is no threat from falling fragments of the anti-missile missile.

At the same time, the Iron Dome system will continue to function as an insurance system, and in case of bad weather, as the main one.
