Meloni signs 8 agreements in Libya, flights resume in January

Day in Tripoli for the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, per il business forum Italy-Libya. The event returns to Libya after over 10 years and coincides with Meloni’s fourth visit to the African country since the beginning of his mandate. Meloni and Prime Minister Dabaiba had made the commitment to hold this demonstration during their May meeting in Tripoli, with the aim of supporting the relaunch of economic relations between Italy and Libya even more convincingly. Meloni is accompanied by the Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso.

The collaboration between Italy and Libya is not limited to the economic sphere alone, but also embraces the immigration dossierin which Italy remains strongly committed. Italy and Libya will also cooperate in creating egalitarian partnerships within the framework of the Mattei Plan for Africa and will strengthen relations with African nations of origin and transit along the lines traced by the Rome Process and the Trans-Mediterranean Migration Forum in Tripoli of last July. Meloni’s participation in the business forum will also allow us to reiterate the Italian government’s traditional support for the United Nations’ efforts to relaunch a political process that leads to the reunification of all Libyan institutions.

 

Meloni, the relationship with Libya is a priority for Italy and the EU

“This is my fourth visit to Libya since I took over the leadership of the Italian government, it is my third visit to Libya this year alone and it does not happen by chance: this frequency of mutual visits is the result of a very precise political choice of the government: we consider the relationship with Libya a priority for Italy and Europe”, declared the Prime Minister speaking at the forum. “We are convinced that the deep cooperation that binds us has not yet expressed its full potential”, added the prime minister

 

Meloni, Ita will return to connect Italy and Libya from January 2025

“I am proud to be able to announce today that Ita Airways will return to connect our two nations from January 2025. And I am proud that Italy was the first Western nation to cancel its negative opinion on business travel to Libya,” she said Melons.

 

Italy-Libya: 8 agreements signed, approval in Todini for the coastal motorway

During the Italy-Libya business forum in Tripoli, 8 agreements were signed. One of these consists of the ‘letter of acceptance’ between Todini and the Libyan Emsaad Ras Ejdair Motorway Authority (ERMA) for lots 4.2 and 4.3 of the coastal motorway. The letter is the document with which the Libyan body, following the Libyan government authorization, formally accepts the Italian company as assignee of the contract, in anticipation of the subsequent signature of the same once the financial and operational guarantee clauses have been verified, all ‘now being defined.

 

Meloni-Dabaiba meeting also on the topic of migrants

“The business forum, which saw a particularly qualified participation of representatives of the Italian and Libyan business world”, reads a note from Palazzo Chigi, “was structured into four sectoral tables dedicated to energy, fishing and agro-industry, healthcare and pharmaceuticals and infrastructure and design, as well as a session dedicated to illustrating the forms of public support for Italian companies that intend to engage in Libya by ICE, SACE and SIMEST, President Meloni had a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of the Libyan National Unity Government, Abdulhameed Mohamed Dabaiba.

 

The discussion focused on the different areas of ever-growing bilateral cooperation. Among the sectors of Italian-Libyan collaboration, the two leaders addressed the issue of the management of migratory phenomena, in which President Meloni underlined the need to intensify efforts in combating human trafficking and, at the same time, to strengthen cooperation with the Nations of origin and transit in the framework of the Rome Process and the Trans-Mediterranean Migration Forum in Tripoli last July. At the end of the meeting, there was also a unanimous desire to collaborate with the aim of creating egalitarian partnerships with African nations within the framework of the concrete projects launched by the Mattei Plan for Africa”.
