Gaming industry|The creator of the hit game Hill Climb Racing complains about the collapse of the advertising market and has to cut back on expenses.
From Oulu the game company Fingersoft has had to lay off its employees. About that tells among others the newspaper Kaleva. Managing director Jaakko Kylmäoja tells Kaleva that the year has been difficult for the company.
“This year there will be a more significant decrease in advertising revenue, and because of that the revenue level is even lower for the time being. The expenses had to be set at such a level that the company’s coffers would not dwindle any further,” he said.
According to Kylmäoja, the game company first tried to save on everything else, but when other means were used, it ended up with staff reductions. The company dismissed 14 employees, 12 of them in Oulu and two in Helsinki.
Fingersoft has, according to Kylmäoja, invested its income heavily in the development of new games in recent years. After the layoffs, the company has more than 90 employees in Oulu.
The company’s best-known hit game is a driving game Hill Climb Racingwhose various versions had been downloaded more than two billion times by 2022. Earlier this year, Fingersoft released the latest version of the game Lego Hill Climb Adventuresin.
