According to OP’s survey, 28 percent of male investors have invested more in foreign stocks due to the weak success of the domestic stock market. For female investors, the corresponding share is only 11 percent.

Of the respondents, 57 percent stated that the situation on the Helsinki Stock Exchange has had no impact on their investment decisions.

According to Kalajainen, Finns should invest even more geographically, because the size of the Finnish investment market is only a fraction of the world’s stock market.

According to OP’s customer data, Finns’ share portfolios contain only seven different company shares on average. The majority of these shares are domestic.

“A typical Finnish equity investor has too much weight in the shares of the Helsinki Stock Exchange, which significantly limits the number of investment targets. For example, there are few or no companies in some industries on the Helsinki stock exchange,” says Kalajainen.

According to OP’s analysts, relief in the stock market situation can be expected next year.

“We estimate that the results of Finnish companies will start to rise more clearly next year, when falling interest rates start to support companies’ demand prospects. From the point of view of the Helsinki Stock Exchange, the most important thing is the trust of industrial companies. The industry has been in a global slump for two years already, but now we are finally expecting signs of investment growth,” says OP’s chief analyst Antti Saari in OP’s bulletin.
