INTEREST RATES AND CURRENCIES: The US labor market report gave movement to interest rates

At the time of the review, the interest rate on the US ten-year government bond was 1.6 basis points higher at 4.301 percent. The US two-year government bond rate was down 3.7 basis points at 4.133 percent.

The German ten-year government bond rate was 0.1 percentage point higher at 2.386 percent. The interest rate on the two-year government bond was 3.6 percentage points lower at 2.236 percent.

The US Department of Labor today released its employment report for October, based on which investors evaluate the state of the federal economy and the direction of the Fed’s monetary policy.

Interest rates on government bonds reacted downward to the publication of the labor market report. The interest rate on the two-year government bond of the United States would fall by up to ten percentage points. The interest rate on the ten-year government bond was slightly more moderate, dropping by a good four percentage points shortly after the report was published.

The unemployment rate in the United States was 4.1 percent in October, while it was also 4.1 percent in September. News agency Bloomberg’s the consensus of economists expected the unemployment rate to remain at the previous month’s level at 4.1 percent.

Non-agricultural jobs grew by 12,000 in October. The corrected reading for September was an increase of 223,000 copies. The forecast expected growth of 100,000 jobs in October. Jobs are taken into account without agriculture due to the seasonal nature of the industry.

Jobs in industry decreased by 46,000. In September, according to corrected figures, jobs decreased by 6,000. Economists expected a decline of 30,000 jobs.

The Ministry of Labor publishes its report on the first Friday of every month. The report is based on surveys of households and companies.

The score of the ISM Prices Paid index in the United States rose to 54.8 points. Economists’ forecast collected by Bloomberg was 50.0 and the previous month’s reading was 48.3. The index describes changes in the prices paid for crops, livestock and housing for families.

Construction investments increased by 0.6 percent from the previous month. The forecast was 0.0 percent. In September, construction investments grew by 0.1 percent.

The industrial ISM index score fell to 46.5 index points. The forecast was 47.6 and the previous month’s reading was 47.2. The index describes industrial activity based on a survey of purchasing managers by ISM.

The score of the S&P Global industrial purchasing managers’ index was 48.5 in October. The consensus forecast collected by Bloomberg was 47.8 and the previous month’s reading was 47.8.

The limit of 50 points in purchasing managers’ indices is significant, as numbers above it indicate that the economy is growing and numbers below it are contracting.

Oil prices were on the rise on Friday.
