The area around the gasometers is becoming greener

Under the name Bricolage City arises west and south of the Gasometer apron a new district in the next few years. Around 2,000 people will have attractive living space and job opportunities in the future. The heart of the project Simmering forms a 51,000 m2 large park area by the Vienna city gardens The gasometer is built in the southern apron. An EU-wide competition was held to design the park. The winner was an international planning team consisting of the landscape architecture firm Bogl from Copenhagen and the urban planning and landscape architecture firm Nuwela from Munich.

Park becomes climate fit

Future park visitors can look forward to a climate-friendly park that offers numerous play and recreational opportunities. A variety of cooling elements and shady trees promise to cool you down in summer. Different seating areas will not only invite you to linger, but will also create space for social encounters in the future district. A green center is a feature of many new urban development areas. A ten-hectare park will also be implemented in the next few years on the former site of the Nordwestbahnhof in Brigittenau.

District continues to grow

The gasometer apron is part of the Erdberger Mais – St. Marx target area has changed significantly in recent years: Not only companies have settled in the once industrial district, but residential towers and residential areas have also been built. In total, more than 15,000 people have already settled there and more than 20,000 jobs have been created.
The park will be built in several construction phases. The first expansion stage is expected to start in 2026. The first residential units in Bricolage City should be ready for occupancy in 2028.
