Boeing workers accepted the contract proposal, the strike that lasted more than 7 weeks ends

Aircraft manufacturer Boeing’s employees have accepted the contract proposal made by the company. This is how the strike that lasted more than seven weeks ends. The strike began on September 13.

The members of the employee union had rejected two previous contract offers.

With the agreement now approved, approximately 33,000 of the company’s employees will return to two large aircraft assembly plants in the Seattle area.

The contract includes, for example, a 38 percent salary increase and a one-time payment of $12,000.

The workers had demanded a 40 percent wage increase, which could compensate for years of weak wage increases that have not kept pace with inflation.

However, the contract did not restore the pension arrangement that was removed in the previous contract, as the older employees had hoped.

Seattle union leader Jon Holden described the deal as a victory for workers who had decided to be compensated for more than a decade of stagnant wages.

“The strike is over, and now our job is to get back to work, start building airplanes and return the company to financial prosperity,” Holden said at a news conference.

In its previous earnings announcement, Boeing reported huge losses, which were affected by, for example, a giant strike.
