Trenitalia: "Automatic reimbursement for regional trains arrives in January"

“From January, for those who purchase the electronic ticket for the Trenitalia regional train, the possible refund will be automatic with the usual rules.” This was announced by the CEO of Trenitalia Luigi Corradi, who spoke as part of Expo Consumers 4.0 in Ancona in a panel with Gabriele Melluso, President of Assoutenti.

“We are working to facilitate the travel experience of passengers.” An example, according to the CEO of Trenitalia, is il Tap&Tap “which allows you to pay for the trip by directly placing the contactless payment card on the validator. This is a service that we have already launched on some lines and which will increasingly spread nationwide.”

An acceleration on the theme of digitalisation which is accompanied by Trenitalia’s ever-increasing attention to passenger needs, which have changed a lot in recent years.

“Already in 2023 we have resumed having traffic volumes on our trains equal to pre-Covid levels,” said Corradi. “Today, passengers are increasing, especially with regards to leisure and tourist mobility. This is why we have predicted the new Frecciarossa 1000s that will soon arrive on the tracks more space for luggage and one greater accessibility for passengers with reduced mobility. All this while also helping families with ad hoc commercial plans for greater economic sustainability of travel.”

The company’s growing attention to the management of railway emergencies also goes in this direction. In this field the focus is mainly on the technological aspect, given that as Corradi announces, “new emergency locomotives will soon arrive, faster and capable of quickly re-powering the train in difficulty, emergency buses will increase and the so-called hot reserves, or the trains that facilitate the transfer of passengers and we are checking how to increase the number of batteries on trains, to have air conditioning for longer and travel a few kilometers without power”.

Finally, on the topic of safety, Corradi reiterated his solidarity with the train conductor attacked in recent days in Genoa and underlined Trenitalia’s attention to improving the safety conditions of passengers and traveling staff.

“We have reactivated the turnstiles in some large Italian stations more punctually, so that only those who have tickets get on the train,” highlighted Corradi. “The new trains are all equipped with closed circuit cameras and they are open tube, that is, open so that everyone can see what is happening in the carriages.” It goes in the direction of deterrence and increasing sense of securityfinally, the experimentation of body cams in Emilia-Romagna, which sees the installation of cameras on the uniforms of staff “who will be able to decide to activate them in the most critical situations. There The trial has been going on for more than six months and the results are very positive in terms of staff and passenger satisfaction”.
