That’s 30 euros more than a graduate BHSa good 200 euros more than with BMS-Graduation and a good 500 euros more than that AHShigh school graduates, emphasizes Kühnel. She explains the fact that, statistically speaking, academics are still ahead financially over the course of their working careers: “Academics usually catch up quite late in terms of lifetime income. Average numbers or median values also distort the picture.”

Through Master’s examinations and Independence Attractive income opportunities could also be generated later through an apprenticeship. “We know from a German study that master craftsmen and technicians earn more money than academics almost until the end of their working lives,” says Mariana Kühnel.

Apprentices can choose from a total of 200 professions. According to the WKO, the most lucrative income is traditionally in… Building construction (from 1,274 euros gross in the first to 2,866 euros in the fourth year of training).
