Vietnam Airlines plans to charter 4 aircraft to serve the Lunar New Year

If 4 aircraft are chartered, Vietnam Airlines will have nearly 130,000 additional seats to serve the travel needs of people during the Lunar New Year.

Vietnam Airlines Corporation (Vietnam Airlines) has just planned to increase flights to serve travel needs during the Lunar New Year. The airline plans to lease 4 more Airbus A320/A321 aircraft, including 2 wet-leased aircraft (including flight crew).

These aircraft have a capacity of 180 passengers and will be served by Vietnam Airlines and foreign flight attendants according to the airline’s service standards, except for the entertainment system.

According to a representative of Vietnam Airlines, each aircraft is expected to operate 180 flights during the peak period of Tet 2025. If 2 aircraft are chartered, there will be an additional 64,800 seats, and if 4 aircraft are chartered, there will be an additional 129,600 seats to the market. The company hopes to soon cooperate with service providers.

During this year’s Lunar New Year, the business plans to provide more than 2.5 million tickets. To date, the company has sold 1.5 million tickets, reaching two-thirds compared to the same period last year. On November 11, the airline just increased domestic flights for niche routes such as Ho Chi Minh City – Chu Lai, Quy Nhon, Buon Ma Thuot, Gia Lai…

In addition to Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air also opened early sale of 2.6 million Tet tickets for the period January 15 – February 12, 2025, serving travel needs during the holidays. Similarly, Bamboo Airways also opened ticket sales during this period. Air tickets for Tet this year are priced higher than the same period in 2023 due to the limited number of aircraft and escalating input costs.

The Vietnam Aviation Administration said it will monitor the booking situation and ticket prices on domestic routes to promptly direct airlines to add loads to meet the peak demand of the Lunar New Year 2025.
