Chinese red pearls attract Vietnamese customers

Mini Chinese red jelly (24-26 pieces per kg) with an eye-catching red color is attracting Vietnamese customers despite the premium price compared to domestic products.

The first time she imported about 100 kg of Chinese mini persimmons, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong in Cau Giay, Hanoi, said the entire quantity was sold out within the day. Each kilogram of this type has about 24-26 fruits. When ripe, the fruits are jelly-like, sweet and fragrant. The selling price ranges from 80,000 to 100,000 VND per kilogram.

In Ho Chi Minh City, this type of persimmon is also sold in traditional markets and on social networks, with prices ranging from 100,000-120,000 VND per kg, 2-3 times higher than Vietnamese persimmon eggs.

Despite the high price, mini pink rhinestones are still popular with many people. According to Ms. Hong Nga, an import trader at Lao Cai international border gate, at first she tried importing 5 tons, but seeing good consumption, she imported more and more. Besides Hanoi and Lao Cai, she distributes goods to Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang.

Persimmons are usually packed in 12 kg boxes or boxes, with a price of about 360,000 VND (equivalent to 30,000 VND per kg) at Lao Cai border gate. Wholesalers must buy at least 2 roses and pay shipping costs.

In China, this fruit is often grown in cold climates, especially Shandong and Shaanxi provinces, with a selling price of about 10-15 yuan (35,000-55,000 VND) per kilogram.

Previously, persimmon was mainly consumed in China because it was easily damaged during transportation. However, thanks to improvements in preservation and packaging, this product has been exported to many countries such as Vietnam, Korea and Japan.

The leader of Thu Duc agricultural wholesale market said that Chinese persimmons imported to the market are usually crispy; In particular, pearl jade is mainly imported through Lao Cai and sold directly to wholesalers or consumers. “This is a new product, appearing for the first time in Vietnam, so consumers should choose products with traceability stamps and from reputable suppliers to ensure quality,” he recommended.

The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association also believes that it is necessary to strengthen import quality inspection and closely monitor trails and openings to prevent poor quality goods from entering the market.

In the first 9 months of the year, Vietnam spent 700 million USD to import vegetables and fruits from China, an increase of 39% over the same period last year, with popular items including grapes, apples, persimmons and onions and garlic.
