Experts see little chance of continuation

The furniture store Kika/Leiner will be on Thursday Filing for bankruptcy submit to court. Then there should be the first official data on liabilities. The application should also clarify whether the company is trying to restructure again or whether bankruptcy proceedings need to be opened.

However, creditor protectors assess the chances of the company continuing to operate as slim. 1,400 employees are affected by the bankruptcy.

The furniture store has been in crisis for several years; in the past ten years there have been three changes of ownership, one bankruptcy and numerous branch closures. In 2023, Rene Benkos Signa sold the Kika/Leiner properties to Graz Supernova and the operational furniture business to the trade manager Hermann Wieser.

Shortly afterwards, the company filed for bankruptcy and 23 of 40 branches were closed as part of the restructuring. The renovation should have run until September 2025, but has now failed.
