Agfa will reorganize its traditional film activities. As a result, up to 530 jobs are at risk of disappearing in Mortsel, the imaging specialist announced at a special works council on Thursday.
Agfa-Gevaert wants to adapt its traditional film activities – such as medical film products – to market reality. After all, there is less and less demand for those film products.
The company is planning a thorough reorganization, which could result in up to 530 jobs disappearing in Mortsel over the next three years. Workers, employees and executives would be affected. The restructuring should result in savings of 50 million euros by the end of 2027.
Agfa says it wants to avoid as many layoffs as possible by, among other things, using re-employment and SWT, the former early retirement pension. All people who are in danger of losing their jobs work in Mortsel, where the film activities are located. Today, 1,350 people still work there, apart from those at the head office, which is also located in Mortsel.
The more than 150-year-old company wants to save 50 million euros by the end of 2027 through the reorganization.
To be clear: the reorganization has nothing to do with the classic film rolls of the past – Agfa sold those historic activities more than twenty years ago.
