The Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) proposed in the economic package for 2025 that the investment for the construction of infrastructure, maintenance and acquisition of equipment for generation, transmission and distribution of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) be 48 1,180 million pesos, an amount higher by 10.2 percent in real terms compared to the budget for 2024.

Given the requirements of the National Energy Plan presented by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo in recent days, the federal agency proposed an increase in the allocation of federal resources to strengthen the public company.

The Federation Expenditure Budget initiative for 2025 indicates that the CFE plans to invest 25,622 million pesos for the maintenance and operation of the generating plants, including the Laguna Verde Nuclear Power Plant and the mobile emergency units, which will allow meet the energy requirements of the wholesale electricity market (MEM).

For transmission, 10,337 million pesos will be allocated, of which 2,736.5 million are for maintenance programs for transmission links and substations; acquisition of specialized and transportation equipment; as well as the construction of projects instructed by the Ministry of Energy (Sener), such as the smart electrical grid or the replacement of energy meters in high voltage services.

9,680 million pesos will be allocated to distribution for various projects, including some that are shared with CFE Transmission.

These resources also include maintenance of general distribution networks and substations and investment in programs such as the reduction of technical losses.

According to CFE Distribución, a savings program will be implemented, which seeks to cut expenses for additional personnel, travel expenses, food in facilities, overtime, consumables and spare parts for computer equipment, stationery and office supplies, fees and instructors external, office remodeling, acquisition and rental of computer programs, among others.

This subsidiary seeks to increase electrification coverage nationwide from 99.6 percent in 2024 to 99.74 in 2025; increase the general distribution networks, from 5 thousand 142.82 kilometers in 2024 to 5 thousand 252.59 for the following year; regularization of popular neighborhoods, which will allow the incorporation of a little more than a million users in the year and reduce the percentage of non-technical losses from 6.21 percent in 2024 to 6.09 percent in 2025.

According to the initiative delivered on Friday by the Treasury, the CFE seeks to invest 746 million pesos for basic supply projects to modernize equipment for customer service and remodel administrative equipment.

According to CFE Basic Services Supplier, it is expected to obtain 531 thousand 378 million pesos from the sale of energy, which is around 230.5 terawatt hours.
