Report: Biden authorized Ukraine to attack Russia using American missiles

Towards the end of his term in the White House, US President Joe Biden is allowing Ukraine to use weapons supplied by the US in order to attack deep into Russia’s territory, according to a Reuters report provided by three sources familiar with the matter. The sources added and noted that this is a significant change in Washington’s policy in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

Ukraine is likely planning to launch its first long-range attacks in the coming days, the sources said, without disclosing details due to concerns about information security leaks.

The US move, two months before President-elect Donald Trump takes office on January 20, follows months of requests by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to allow Ukraine’s military to use US weapons to strike Russian military targets far from its border. What led to the change is the deployment of ground forces of 10,000 soldiers from North Korea who arrived in Russia in order to thicken its foot forces, a development that caused him to think strategically in Washington and Kyiv.

The first deep attacks, as mentioned, are expected to be carried out using ATACMS rockets, which have a range of up to 190 miles (306 km), according to the sources.

France and Great Britain also authorize Ukraine to use missiles made by them

While a number of officials in Washington have expressed doubts about the move and its results, it can be speculated that this decision may put Ukraine in a better negotiating position when talks on a cease-fire take place after President-elect Donald Trump enters the White House.

Also, the French newspaper Le Figaro reports that at the same time as Biden’s approval to attack deep into Russian territory with American ATACMS missiles – France and Great Britain also approved Ukraine to attack deep into Russia with French SCALP and British Storm Shadow missiles.

The decision comes against the background of Russia’s heavy air attack tonight, after it launched 120 missiles and 90 drones that killed at least seven people and caused serious damage to the electricity system, officials told the media.

The White House declined to comment.
