Financial markets, cautious in the face of geopolitical conflicts

The financial markets started the penultimate week of November amid the news that Ukraine received the green light to attack Russia with long-range missiles from the United States, highlighting the increase in oil prices and awaiting more clues about the new Donald Trump’s mandate.

Given the temporary closure of the Johan Sverdrup oil field in Norway and investor concern about the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, after Joe Biden authorized that country to use long-range US weapons for limited attacks within of Russian territory, the price of Texas intermediate oil rose 3.19 percent this Monday, to $69.16 a barrel.

At the end of the session, futures contracts for delivery in December totaled $2.14 compared to the close of the previous day.

For its part, Brent gained 3.18 percent compared to the previous session and reached $73.30 in the London futures market. The barrel of North Sea crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.26 dollars compared to the last trading on the International Exchange, when it ended at 71.04 dollars.

On a day where the Mexican financial markets were closed, the peso operated with an appreciation compared to its close on Friday with 20.2394 per dollar.

The lack of macroeconomic and monetary references in the coming days promotes greater stability in the dollar crosses. The euro repeats at 1.05 dollars, close to its recent annual lows. Meanwhile, the DXY index, which measures the behavior of the US currency against six international currencies, depreciated 0.45 percent, to 106,135 units.

On Wall Street, the balance was mixed, after Friday’s fall. The S&P 500 rose 23.00 points, or 0.4 percent, to 5,893, its first gain in three days.
