Matt Gates has withdrawn his candidacy for Trump’s attorney general post

Matt Gates (Gaetz) today (Thursday) withdrew his candidacy for the position of Attorney General of Donald Trump. Getz’s candidacy was accompanied by a lot of criticism, as his name was linked to many scandals, including suspicion of having sex with a minor that led to a federal investigation (a case that was eventually closed), as well as an internal congressional investigation into the same matter.

“I had excellent meetings with senators yesterday. I appreciate their in-depth feedback – and the incredible support of so many. Although the momentum was strong, it is clear that confirming my nomination has, unfairly, become a distraction from the critical work of Trump/Vance,” he tweeted this evening Gates at X Network (formerly Twitter).

In a post he published on his social network Truth Social, Trump referred to Gates’ decision and wrote: “I greatly appreciate the recent efforts of Matt Gates to acquire support to be appointed to the position of Attorney General. He has made very good progress, but at the same time, he did not want to be a distraction for the administration, that he respects him very much.”

Now, the incoming President Trump will be forced to choose a new candidate, who will have to go through the confirmation of the Senate.
