Bosch will cut more than 5,500 jobs worldwide, especially in Germany

The German industrial group Bosch plans to cut 5,550 jobs worldwide in the coming years. A company spokeswoman said this on Friday. About two in three jobs – 3,800 in total – will be cut in Germany. No jobs are disappearing in Belgium.

According to Bosch’s statement, these are not yet final figures. The exact number of jobs cut will be part of negotiations with the unions.

Bosch is the largest supplier to the automotive industry worldwide. The company is now feeling the consequences of the difficulties in the car market. The sector is suffering from declining demand, delays in the transition to electric vehicles and increasing competition from China. “Global car production will stagnate this year at around 93 million units, or even decline slightly compared to the previous year,” the German group said in a press release.

In recent months, Bosch had already announced plans to reduce its workforce worldwide. At that time, this amounted to a total of around 7,000 jobs, mainly in the automotive division.

Friday’s announcement has no consequences for employment in our country, a spokesperson for Bosch in Belgium told the Belga press agency. The Bosch group has approximately 1,300 employees in Belgium. The most important locations are in Tienen, Anderlecht and Mechelen.
