Beijing. The eastern route gas pipeline between China and Russia, the one with the largest gas transmission capacity in a single line, was fully connected.

The pipeline has also reached full operating capacity with an annual transmission volume of 38 billion cubic meters, said the China Oil and Gas Pipeline Network Corporation (PipeChina).

As a flagship project of China-Russia energy cooperation, the cross-border gas pipeline has a 3,000-kilometer section in Russia and a 5,111-kilometer section in China.

The China section of the gas pipeline begins in Heihe, a city in the northeast of the country that borders Russia, and transports natural gas from Siberia south to Shanghai, China’s economic and financial center.

Connecting the entire pipeline route significantly expands natural gas supply capacity and emergency peak shaving capabilities in densely populated eastern China. It also represents the completion of the country’s eastern strategic energy corridor, PipeChina noted.

Since the start of operations of the northern part of the China section in December 2019, the pipeline has transmitted more than 80 billion cubic meters of natural gas, benefiting a population of around 450 million people. along his route.

The China-Russia Eastern Route Gas Pipeline is the third long-distance cross-border line to supply gas to China, after the China-Central Asia and China-Myanmar gas and oil pipelines.
