Australian Origin Energy has chosen Wärtsilä to deliver the third phase of the Eraring battery plant to Origin’s Eraring power station in New South Wales, Australia. Wärtsilä also delivered two previous phases to the project. Wärtsilä does not publish the price of the project. The order is recorded in the orders of the last quarter of the year.
With the agreement, Wärtsilä will install 700 megawatt hours of energy storage capacity directly in the Eraring Stage 1 system. The battery project is one of the largest in Australia and one of the largest in the world. The Eraring battery will be connected to Australia’s national electricity market.
Wärtsilä is conducting a strategic evaluation of the energy storage business. In the future, options may include the continuation of full Wärtsilä ownership of the energy storage business, a partial or complete sale of the business, or other possible strategic options.
