The Ministry of Transport announced that the Jerusalem tram will be completely stopped for the week from January 17 to 24, 2025, due to testing of systems before the opening of new sections of the Red Line.
The Ministry of Transport plans to significantly increase the frequency of buses to compensate for the lack of trams, which carry 150 thousand passengers per day.
From January 25, 2025, the length of the red line will increase by 7 kilometers and 12 stops, and will include sections between Mount Herzl and Adassa Ein Kerem Hospital in the south of the capital and between the Pisgat Ze’ev neighborhood and the Neve Yaakov neighborhood in north.
It should be noted that the launch of these sections was supposed to occur in September 2023.
