The EU struck against Russia’s shadow fleet

The countries of the European Union have reached an agreement on new sanctions against Russia. It tells about it, among other things news agency Reuters.

The sanctions package still lacks the approval of EU foreign ministers, which is expected on Monday.

the president of the EU Commission Ursula von der Leyenin according to the sanctions now hit Russia’s so-called shadow fleet, with which Russia has tried to circumvent previous sanctions. In addition, according to the sources, the target is Chinese companies that manufacture drones for Russia’s needs in its war of aggression in Ukraine.

“The EU and its G7 partners are committed to maintaining pressure on the Kremlin,” says von der Leyen.

“We have to maintain strong pressure against Russia. Good to see that the 15th sanctions package has been agreed upon. It will further weaken Putin’s war machine,” commented the EU’s high foreign policy representative Kaja Kalla.

The EU imposed sanctions on the activities of the shadow fleet against last in June.

The shadow fleet refers to ships whose ownership relationships have been obscured in order to evade sanctions. They participate, for example, in transporting oil subject to sanctions.

The Russian economy has drifted into even worse difficulties. The ruble collapsed recently, and the reason was generally assessed to be the strict sanctions imposed on Gazprombank, which brokered Russian gas export money.
