Media information: Honda and Nissan begin merger talks

The Japanese car giants Honda and Nissan are starting negotiations on a merger, reports the economic newspaper Nikkei Asia.

By merging, they aim for a better competitive position against Tesla and other electric car manufacturers.

In the future, the companies plan to operate under one holding company, and they plan to sign a letter of intent soon to establish a new unit.

According to Nikkei Asia, the companies intend to create one of the world’s leading car groups at the same time, and they are considering moving Mitsubishi Motors under the holding company as well. Nissan Motors is Mitsubishi’s largest shareholder.

Honda and Nissan already announced in March of this year that they are exploring the possibilities of a strategic partnership.
