Bankinter renews its leadership: appoints Maite Cañas as Director of Companies and approves the departure of the director of Evo Banco in full integration

Bankinter ends the year with a profound renovation of its leadership. The entity led by Gloria Ortiz has appointed Love Cañas as the new Director of Companies, replacing Fernando Moreno and has also approved the departure of Eduardo Ozaita, until now director of Evo Banco, in full integration of the digital brand.

The movements have received the green light in the extraordinary board of directors held this Thursday by the group, which frames the changes in a “generational” replacement by which Cañas will also become a member of the entity’s management committee. “As of January, the new director of the Business area will replace Fernando Moreno, who will leave both positions after a long and fruitful career of 37 years at the bank, occupying different positions of responsibility,” says Bankinter in a note published after the closing of markets.

In this same dynamic of generational change, the bank ascribes the departure of Eduardo Ozaita as general director of the group’s still digital subsidiary, Evo Banco, once its integration into the Bankinter structure occurs. Ozaita had also been with the entity for 37 years, where he has held different positions of responsibility such as director of Electronic Banking, director of Corporate Banking, director of the Territorial Organization of Andalusia, general director of Business Banking, general director of Commercial Banking and, since 2021, general director of Evo Banco.

For her part, Maite Cañas Luzarraga, current director of Madrid Corporate Banking, will start in January to direct the Business Banking area, which is structured into three client segments: SMEs (which includes clients with a turnover of up to 5 million of euros), Medium Companies (between 5 and 50 million euros) and Corporate Banking (companies with a turnover of 50 million or more). Also included in this area is the International Banking business, which is increasingly relevant, as well as Transactional Banking and Partner Banking, a business based on the bank’s agreements with partner companies to offer tailored financial services to their employees.

Born in Bilbao 44 years ago, Maite Cañas has a Law degree from the University of Deusto and a Master’s degree in Business Management and Administration (IEB). After joining Bankinter in 2006, she held different responsibilities within the Madrid Corporate Organization until 2016 and, subsequently, in Partner Banking, as Commercial Director, demonstrating her ability to transform the business by generating new lines of income. Since February 2019, he has directed the Madrid Corporate Banking Organization, which brings together large companies based in this community.

His predecessor at the bank, Fernando Moreno, says goodbye after almost four decades of experience within the bank, where he has held different positions related to the client business, such as director of Corporate Banking, director of Virtual Banking, director of Personal Clients physical entities, General Director of Commercial Banking or, since 2020, General Director of Business Banking.

In the note released by Bankinter, the CEO, Gloria Ortiz, highlights the impact of the generational change that the replacement of both professionals entails, whom she thanked “in capital letters” for their generosity, unconditional dedication, effort and commitment throughout all these years. “Without a doubt, you have left an indelible mark, not only on the bank, for your contribution in building the entity we are today, but also in the memory of all of us who have been your colleagues.”
