A massive 660 megawatt steam boiler was completed in China – This is what it was built for

A supercritical circulating fluidized bed boiler with an output of 660 megawatts has started up in China. News about the project, among other things Interesting Engineering.

Fluidized bed boilers can be divided into stratified and circulating fluidized bed boilers, of which the device developed by the Chinese belongs to the latter category.

The world’s largest in its category

Harbin Electric Corporationin a circulating fluidized bed boiler has been put into use at the Binchang Power Plant, located in Shaanxi Province. The boiler was recently tested at full power for 168 hours.

According to the company, the boiler is the largest in its category in the world when it comes to power.

The pressure of the main steam is 29.3 megapascals and the temperature is 605 degrees Celsius. After the intermediate heater, the temperature of the steam is 623 degrees Celsius. According to the company, the efficiency and heat output of the boiler are excellent.

The system removes sulfur with an efficiency of 95 percent.

In addition to the boiler, the system designed for the production of steam and heat includes a turbine and a generator.

According to the company, the whole will stabilize the local electricity system. A total of two boilers will be built.
