The Ministry of Transport and the Rakevet Israel railway company announced the completion of work on the electrification of the railway section between Sderot and Ashkelon.
With the site closed for safety reasons, work to electrify it has been carried out throughout the week in recent months, rather than just on weekends.
However, after receiving permission from the Ministry of Defense to resume traffic, the section will still be served by diesel locomotives until the electrification of the Ofakim-Netivot and Ofakim-Beersheba sections is completed.
To date, 70% of Israeli railways have been electrified, including all central lines and most of the Tel Aviv-Haifa line.
