Finnair ended the convenient flight to Stockholm Bromma Airport

Finnair’s last flight landed at Bromma airport, which was opened in 1936. According to the company, it was no longer profitable to fly the route.

The summary is made by artificial intelligence and checked by a human.

Finnair stopped flight connections from Helsinki to Stockholm Bromma on Monday evening.

The reason is that the ground handling partner is closing its operations and opening hours are being reduced in Bromma.

Many have liked the route because it descends near the center of Stockholm.

Finnair’s flights continue to the main airport Arlanda, which is located further from the center.

Finnair on Monday evening stopped the flight connections from Helsinki to Stockholm’s city airport in Bromma.

“Our ground handling partner at Bromma airport announced that it will cease operations from January 2025 and the airport has limited its opening hours, which is why it would no longer be profitable to operate the route”, explains the communications manager Kaisa Tikkanen from Finnair.

Finnair’s last flight to Bromma and back was originally supposed to leave only today, Tuesday. The connection had to be canceled because Bromma’s field is open for a limited time on New Year’s Eve.

Therefore, Monday evening flight AY839 was the company’s last flight to the airport west of Stockholm. The other airlines operating from Helsinki to Stockholm, SAS and Norwegian, do not use the Bromma airport, which was inaugurated in 1936.

The bromance the urban field has served those flying to Stockholm especially because of its location. The field is located less than ten kilometers from the core of Stockholm, while the distance from the main field from Arlanda to the center is more than 40 kilometers.

HS happened to be on the last flight that cut off Finnair’s air bridge between Helsinki-Vantaa and Bromma that started in August 2010.

Bromma’s location was also the reason why the Tampere native is one of Finland’s best female tennis players Milla Kotamäki15, was sitting as a passenger on the last flight en route to the tournament.

“Bromma’s field is close to the Salk hall, where the games are played. I can still get a ride from the field to the hall. I have used this connection before,” Kotamäki said.

Milla Kotamäki from Tampere, one of Finland’s best tennis players, traveled on the last flight. He chose the flight to Bromma precisely because of the location of the field.

Finnair has flown between Helsinki and Bromma twice a day with ATR propeller planes, in the morning and in the evening.

There was no big whiff of history in the air on Monday evening. Blueberry juice was served as usual. Only the captain’s announcement in the middle of the journey deviated from the norm.

“This is Finnair’s last flight to Bromma. From now on we will fly to Arlanda Airport”, the captain announced.

The last flight was not full, but still within the limits of profitability. Finnair does not disclose route-specific passenger numbers.

“The Stockholm route is one of our busiest routes. Our main airport in Stockholm has always been Arlanda, where we fly up to nine times a day on weekdays and six times a day on weekends,” says communications manager Tikkanen.

The last flight to Stockholm City Airport was not quite full.

Bromma’s terminal was empty on Monday evening in an instant, when Milla Kotamäki got her tennis bag off the belt after landing.

Finnair’s plane with the registration number OH-ATH, on the other hand, returned to Finland normally with passengers still on Monday evening.

Finnair’s connection to Bromma ended in the darkness of Monday evening. According to Finnair, the airport has limited its opening hours, which makes the operation unprofitable.
