Toyota Corolla was the most popular new car of the year 2024

Finished the year’s most popular new passenger car was the Toyota Corolla, according to an automotive publication recent statistics.

3,714 Corollas were first registered, and at the same time, it was the only car that achieved more than three thousand registrations in a difficult economic situation. First registration is a typical measure of sales of new cars.

Toyota was also the most popular of the brands, as just under 12,500 of its various passenger car models were registered last year.

The Japanese brand continues to dominate the market, as it was number one as well a year earlier. However, there is a peculiarity hidden in the statistics: Corolla is available in many different versions ever since the SUVand they are all bundled under the same chapter.

A year the best-selling all-electric car was Tesla’s SUV Model Ywhich was also the country’s third most popular new car. 2,388 of them were first registered.

At the end of autumn, it seemed that Volvo’s EX30 -car would become the most popular electric car, but Tesla eventually passed by. Shields were screwed into the EX30 2,042 times.

Strictly speaking, however, Volvo was the most popular electric car brand with around 3,800 cars when all its models are taken into account.

Volvo was one of the few top brands that increased its market share. Toyota has a share of about 17 percent of the country’s new car market, but Volvo is second behind with a share of just under 11 percent.

Big in the picture, all the curves are downwards. Last year, around 74,000 passenger cars were registered, which is a huge drop of 13,000 cars compared to the year before.

Traditionally, more than a hundred thousand new passenger cars have appeared on Finnish roads each year. The deepest squat in modern times was experienced in the recession year 1993, when about 56,000 cars were left.

“Consumers’ confidence in the economy has been low, and the falling interest rates have not yet been reflected in purchasing behavior,” commented the CEO of the Automotive Confederation in the press release. Tero Lausala. He adds that “the worst seems to be over”.

The automotive industry expects a ten percent increase in first registrations this year.
