Cannes launches a drone against town planning violations

Owners of unauthorized roof terraces or illegal constructions well hidden from the street will have to keep an eye out in Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes). After using drones to sterilize gull eggs, secure major events or monitor forest areas, the town hall is tackling town planning infractions from the air.

Its municipal council has just voted to deploy a drone which will be able to “produce image captures of public construction sites or private areas visible and not visible from the public highway”. Objective: better monitor work in progress and building permits issued. “This modern tool will save time during inspections,” emphasizes Mayor David Lisnard (New Energy), “and therefore increase productivity, make operational savings and free town planning agents from time-consuming tasks. »

Around 130 reports drawn up per year

The deployment, during the first half of 2025, of this “class 5” flying machine (25 kg maximum) cannot be done with a simple tap of the radio control. To film and then use the images, the city will have to obtain authorization from the owner or a court decision.
