Toyota completes the first part

After three years of construction, Toyota has named the first section of its future city Woven City completed in Japan.

Over time, around 2,000 residents are expected to move into the city, including researchers, Toyota employees and retirees, such as company bosses Akio Toyoda on the sidelines of the CES technology trade fair in vegas said.

The Japanese car manufacturer also announced Woven City on the site of a former factory at the foot of Mount Fuji at CES five years ago. The idea behind it is to create a place where future technologies can be tried out in everyday life. These include, for example, robots for older people and small drones with lanterns that can accompany you while jogging. Toyota’s autonomous shuttles are to be used for transport.

Interested in rocket technology

Toyoda also emphasized that the company is also interested in rocket technology. “Because the future of mobility should not just be reduced to the earth – or a single car company” – he said with an obvious swipe at the tech billionaire Elon Muskwho leads, among other things, the electric car market leader Tesla and the space company SpaceX.

As a first step, Toyota invested in the Japanese rocket company Interstellar Technologies.
