Italy | The unemployment rate drops to 5.7%, the lowest ever

The unemployment rate in November fell to 5.7% (-0.1 points) to its lowest ever. This was announced by Istat.

However, the youth unemployment rate is increasing, rising to 19.2% (+1.4 points).

The number of people in job search decreases (-1.6%, equal to -24 thousand units) for women and 25-49 year olds, while it increases in the other age groups and, albeit slightly, also among men.
Il number of inactive people it increases (+0.2%, equal to +23 thousand units) for men and those under 35, decreases in the other age groups and is essentially stable among women. The inactivity rate rose to 33.7% (+0.1 points).
Comparing the September-November 2024 quarter with the previous one (June-August), there was an increase in the number of employed people of 0.2% (+49 thousand units). The growth in employment, observed in the quarterly comparison, is associated with the decrease in people looking for work (-8.4%, equal to -136 thousand units) and the increase in the inactive (+0.9%, equal to + 115 thousand units).
Compared to November 2023, the number of people looking for work decreases (-23.9%, equal to -459 thousand units) and the number of inactive people between 15 and 64 years old grows (+2.6%, equal to +323 thousand) .
