The European Union threatened to deprive the US of US access to the European market

The European Union must be prepared to defend its economic interests if the next US administration imposes protective trade tariffs. This was stated in an interview with Bloomberg by the Vice-President of the European Commission, Stephane Sejournet.

“In the event of a trade war, we can use both defensive and offensive measures to protect the economy, including imposing tariffs on American products and providing financial assistance to European companies,” an EU official said.

He recalled that the European Union could limit the access of American companies to the European common market of 450 million consumers. “In the event of a trade war, we could lose everything,” Sejournet added.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrault also issued a warning to Donald Trump. “The EU will not allow other states, no matter which states we are talking about, to threaten its sovereign borders,” he said.

Let us remind you: Trump has repeatedly stated US claims to Greenland, which is Danish territory. Danish authorities reject these territorial claims.
