Digital meter installers encounter 37,000 closed doors

Of the few who continued to refuse even after repeated reminders and notices of default, 34 were prosecuted. This has already led to 3 judgments, in which customers were ordered to let an installer in.

The intention is to replace all analog meters in Flanders by mid-2029. A spokeswoman for Fluvius emphasizes that the 37,000 reminders sent by the company and its subcontractors are not all blatant refusals to allow installers to enter.

“There are also people who had overlooked the first invitation letter, who did not really know what it was about or to whom the letter had not arrived properly,” says Lara Lammens. “Only if they do not grant access after repeated insistence will we initiate legal proceedings with a notice of default.”
