One in ten families plans to choose an electric vehicle by the end of 2026

One in ten Belgian families plans to switch to an electric vehicle by the end of 2026. This is evident from the results of a survey commissioned by BNP Paribas Fortis.

According to the bank, many challenges remain for the transition to electric vehicles. Almost half of the Belgians surveyed expect more support from the government. “About 40 percent of Belgians want the government to make more efforts to facilitate the transition, but 39 percent are opposed to any form of government support. A clear division,” it sounds.

In addition to financial incentives, the issue of infrastructure is a major point of discussion. Those in favor of government intervention believe that the development of public charging points (23 percent) should be prioritized over purchase subsidies (17 percent) and tax credits (15 percent).

According to BNP Paribas Fortis, Belgian families are spending an increasing part of their budget on mobility. This increased from 9.7 percent in 2020 to 10.8 percent in 2022. “These figures underline the urgent need to rethink transport modes and the introduction of sustainable mobility solutions,” it said.
